New Roof is Keeping it Cool…Literally
In the summer of 2024, we undertook a new roof on our building in Bethlehem, Penn. – reflective for energy savings and a Climate Team initiative. White roof coatings reflect sunlight, reducing the amount of heat absorbed by the roof and reducing the amount of energy needed to cool our building. This results in lower energy bills – up to 40% – and less impact on the environment.
As of September, the roof project is complete, and it’s making a serious difference. Here are two pictures taken within 30 seconds and 3 feet of one another.
The temp of the old black roof deck: 137.3 degrees – a few feet away, the new white roof temperature: 95.7. That’s over 41 degrees difference. The PA office can expect considerable reductions in heating / cooling costs moving forward.
